Fareham Archaeological SocietyThe Fareham Archaeological Society was established in 1998 from a core of "A" level students who wished to continue to be involved in archaeological research within the locality. Its aim is to conduct research and investigative archaeology with the view to publication and to continuously gain knowledge and experience along the way. Working in co-operation with the County archaeologist and other professional bodies, these investigations have and will continue to be conducted with sound scientific and professional practices. The society has conducted investigations on several sites including Deserted Medieval Villages (DMV's) and were lucky enough to be invited to participate in a rescue dig at Cams Hill, Fareham, as a prelude to a housing development. The society is currently investigating land in the locality of a C12th Benedictine "Alien" priory. This project began in April 2006 and is still ongoing. The Society is a small, friendly group with a strong social element. The society meets fortnightly, (in a pub of course), out of season and weekly whilst "on site" activities take place.
